Real Madrid Complete Signing Of Ferland Mendy From Lyon

Real Madrid have reached an agreement for the signing of Ferland Mendy from Olympique Lyon and have issued a statement to confirm the report.

The deal is thought to have cost the Los Blancos a sum of 48 million euros plus a further five million euros in add-ons and bonuses.

The left back will like new signings Hazard, Jovic, Militao sign a contract that will see him remain at the club till 2025. Mendy will be officially presented on Wednesday 19 June at 13:00 hours CEST (07:00 ET).

Real Madrid gaffer, Zinedine Zidane and assistant, David Bettoni have been very clear on their stance about the defender stating that he was a key target for the team’s rebuild with his contractual option and age making him a tempting buy for the Spanish giants.

According to reports, Zidane had already had a couple of meetings with the defender to convince him of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu as it was in his best interest.

Although it is Madrid who have effected the signing, other elite clubs around Europe had made several bids for Ferland Mendy which turned out unsuccessful in the end with Juventus, PSG and Barcelona touted as those who showed interest.

Mendy’s desire to represent the French side in the Euro 2020 could have stood in the way but Zidane’s promise to feature him in the first team helped him accept the offer for a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The negotiations between the Los Blancos and Lyon had failed last Tuesday with the French club having denied that any agreement had been arrived at which was in stark contrast with flying reports that Ferland Mendy was having his medicals under the supervision of a Madrid doctor.
