Rerun Supplementary Poll: Kogi West People Have Decided to Move Away from Ineffective Representation – Yahaya Bello

Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello has congratulated Senator Smart Adeyemi, on his victory in the just-concluded Kogi West Senatorial District rerun election.

Adeyemi contested under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was declared winner polling 88, 373 votes to unseat Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 62, 133 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Saturday declared Adeyemi winner following the conclusion of the supplementary.

The governor stated this in a statement issued, in Lokoja, the state capital by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Onogwu Muhammed. According to Bello, the victory is a collective manifestation of intellectual, moral and cultural virtues, and the mandate given by the good people of Kogi West.

He further stated that the victory was a testament to the decision of the people of the area to move away from the ineffective representation of the immediate past, and go for a progressive and development-oriented one.

He also lauded APC supporters in the state and the people of Kogi West for exercising their civic rights in a peaceful manner despite the pockets of unrest recorded in some locations on November 16, leading to declaration of an inconclusive poll by INEC.

He also commended INEC officials and security agencies for acting within the ambit of the law and ensure free, fair, and credible elections in the re-run.

He also restated his commitment to using his second term for groundbreaking developmental strides in all parts of the state and expressed his gratitude to the people for their support for his administration.

He further stated that the ruling party remains grateful to the people of the district for their peaceful conduct at the polls and embracing the promise of the party to work assiduously to ensure the development of the area and the state in general.

With APC winning the three senatorial districts, Belo said his administration would synergize with all APC lawmakers to attract more projects to our state; to make life more meaningful for its citizens.”
