Robben Says Guardiola Is A Better Coach Than Mourinho

Arjen Robben following his retirement has been casting an eye over his career and those following in his steps as well as recounting memories.

The Bayern legend thinks Pep Guardiola sits atop other top managers in Carlo Ancelotti and Jose Mourinho when it comes to all the managers he’s worked with in his illustrious career.

Robben, 35 walks away from an illustrious career with several beautiful memories and a long list of laurels especially during his time at Bayern Munich.

The legendary winger who had the privilege of playing for Chelsea and Real Madrid before a 10 year spell at Bayern played under the tutelage of some of the best tactical minds in the game.

When asked who he thought who sit atop his list for the best managers, he said:

“That’s difficult, of course. But if you ask me who was the best, I say Pep Guardiola. I enjoyed it most with him. Football-wise, he is simply brilliant.

“When Pep came, I was already 30 years old. You’re just trying to stay constant and not get any worse.

But under him I got better again. I suddenly played in different positions where I never thought that I would play. He was the best.”

With Robben and partner on the other flank, Ribery gone, Bayern have moved to bring in players who could provide that bit of creativity and spark in the final third.

Barcelona’s Coutinho is one of those having arrived at the Allianz Arena on loan which includes the option of a £110m transfer.

Coutinho is poised to wear the No.10 shirt for the Bavarians and here’s what Robben had to say about it.

“I got a very nice call from Brazzo [Hasan Salihamidzic], he told me Coutinho wanted the 10. I replied that I only want the best for the club and if the 10 is good for him, that’s great and they have to do it.

“Coutinho is a world-class player, he will certainly help the club. A super transfer. He will need some time, but with his skills he will go for it.”
