SaharaReporters: You Need to Stop Muzzling The Media, Fani-Kayode Tells Buhari

  • Fani-Kayode wonders what Buhari wants since Sowore is in detention.
  • Police lay siege at CDHR and SaharReporters premises.

Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has condemned the barricading of the office of an online media, SaharaReporters by security operatives.

iDONSABI reports that the armed security personnel stormed the office building at G.R.A Ikeja, restricted people from going in while telling members of staff inside the building to come out by banging the gate.

Fani-Kayode took to his social media page calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the security operatives wondering what the president wants after detaining its publisher, Omoyele Sowore.

“I condemn the storming of and laying siege to the offices of @SaharaReporters by security forces. I call on
@MBuhari to stop trying to intimidate journalists, muzzle the media and stifle free speech. You have already locked up their publisher @YeleSowore. What more do you want?

It later occurred that the reason behind the barricading was to stop a planned protest by the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) in collaboration with Sahara Reporters. The aim of the protest was to call for the release of Sowore who has been in the detention of the Department of State Service (DSS) for planning to organise a protest tagged #RevolutionNow.

This also made the Police to barricade CDHR office as well. The protest, which was scheduled for 10am, could not start as scheduled,  as policemen mounted guard at the premises of CDR and the media outfit.
