Salah Head Injury And Its Implications For Liverpool

Mohammed Salah was forced off the pitch on a stretcher after scoring his 22nd league goal as Liverpool claimed a vital 3-2 win over Newcastle at the St. James’ park.

The Liverpool forward was seen clutching his head after a collision with Newcastle’s goalie, Martin Dubravka suggesting that there was a head injury of some sorts.

Salah took the visitors ahead before Salomon Rondon levelled matters putting Klopp and every Liverpool on the edge. Divock Origi then stepped up to head home with only four minutes, on the clock left to play.

That victory was somewhat tainted by the injury to Salah that Jurgen Klopp will be scratching his head over the fitness of the Egyptian and what could be made of it.

“When we came in he was sitting in the dressing room and watching the game. It doesn’t look really serious to be enough but it was enough for the doc to give us a sign that we had to change and that’s what we did. I spoke to him, he looked really OK but the rest we have to see”

Salah may now miss out on Liverpool’s second leg clash with Barcelona in the Champions League and here are its implications for the Reds and the league.

Liverpool Now Short of Two First Team Attackers

With injury to Firmino and now Salah, Liverpool would now have to field less of its first team attackers and this could spell some real problems for them considering they have to overturn a 3-0 deficit to Barcelona.

Game On For Xherdan Shaqiri With Salah Out

It is for this type of situations that the Swiss was brought into the fold in the summer. Shaquiri plays Salah-esque with a little more of stability and strength and could cause both the pair of Jordi Alba and Lenglet some real problems with his pace and trickery in the final third.

Shaqiri singlehandedly tore Manchester United apart this term with a brace that spelt power and looked fuelled with anger from God-knows-where and we could be having a repeat of that on our hands in front of the most enthusiastic set of fans the world has ever seen.

Liverpool Save Themselves Some Blushes In Salah Substitution

This will be the second head injury sustained by an English player in the space of just four days but unlike the case of Vertonghen, Salah was advised to come off the pitch and not worsen the situation or further push himself to a state of unconsciousness like was the case of Jan Vertonghen.

Liverpool showed some level of maturity in opting to substitute the Egyptian and might have just bought him some time to recover before the second leg encounter.

According to the Reds gaffer, there is still that chance that Mo Salah is available for the UCL game against Barcelona. Kudos to Klopp and the medical staff for that sub!

A Trophyless Season

Salah linkup play with Sadio Mane has been impressive lately and the pair lead the league in goals with 22 and 20 respectively. The onus would now rest on Mane to bang in the goals in the absence of both Firmino and the Egyptian.

The Senegalese is not known to be the type of player that can turn the match on its head all by himself and a loss to Barcelona and City eventually winning the league would mean that Liverpool would have to go without a trophy this campaign for all their goals, clean sheets and overall improvement. What a shame. We hope we never have to see that happen.
