Shiite Sect Takes Protest to National Assembly
Reports coming out from Abuja is that federal lawmakers have adjourned plenary as a result of the activities of the members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).
According to reports, members of the sect have forced their way into the national assembly premises to protest the continued detainment of their leader El-Zakzaky.
On Tuesday, members of the sect took to the streets of Abuja to commemorate the birthday of their leader Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

El-Zakzaky was detained in 2015. He has been in the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS) since December 2015. He is currently facing trial over “culpable homicide, unlawful assembly, and disruption of public peace.”
El-Zakzaky and his sect members courted trouble when they blocked the passage of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Liutenant General Tukur Buratai and his convoy in Kaduna in 2015.
El-Zakzaky supporters had earlier on Tuesday beseeched the federal government to release him. They threatened to change their style of protest if the government continues to keep their leader in detention.
According to reports, more security personnel have been deployed to the second gate which is said to be the closest to the lawmaker’s chamber.
