Sterling Open The Floor For City Dominating Win Over Aston Villa

Raheem Sterling opened the floor for Manchester City to record a resounding win over a resilient Aston Villa side.

For the first forty-five minutes, the Citizens were frustrated, with Villa doing their very best to keep them at bay.

The win has cut the gap between City and league leaders, Liverpool to three points with the Reds havingĀ  a game in hand.

It took only 20seconds after the interval to put Manchester City ahead in the clash.

Ederson Morales sent a full-flighted pass with Gabriel Jesus making a glancing header pass to Sterling. The winger latching onto the pass swept the ball through the legs of Tom Heaton to put the hosts ahead.

Villa were gutted. They had protected their goal for the first forty-five minutes attempting to catch the hosts on the break.

However, a brilliant rapport between Ederson, Jesus and Sterling was enough to send City in front.

In spite of the desperate and commanding defending from Villa including a goal line clearance from Tyrone Mings, City added two more.

A curling cross-shot from the feet of Kevin De Bruyne missed everyone and went straight into the net. A VAR review showed that the ball touched no one – including Sterling who was in an offside position – when going into the net.

Ilkay Gundogan then punished the newly-promoted team once more with a 70th minute goal when they failed to clear the ball from a corner.

The Citizens woes deepened when Fernandinho was given marching orders in the final minutes of the encounter.

Manchester City with this dominating win have now regained second place on the Premier League standings.

A devastating Leicester 9-0 win over Southamptoon took Brendan Rodgers side to second place just behind league leaders, Liverpool.

Liverpool can however extend their lead to six points when they take on a struggling Tottenham on Sunday.
