Super Eagles Recover From One-Goal Deficit To Record Massive Win Over Lesotho

The Super Eagles of Nigeria bounced back from an early goal they conceded, to record a 4-2 victory over Lesotho.

Nigeria had fallen behind just inside 11 minutes but made sure they restored parity before the half-hour mark.

Lesotho went ahead in the 11th minute courtesy of a goal by Masoabi Nkoto, however, Nigeria soon levelled matters through Alex Iwobi.

Masoabi Nkoto’s goal sent the home crowd into a frenzy with his header beating an helpless Daniel Akpeyi between the sticks.

He took advantage of a sloppy defence and deservedly got the goal. The Super Eagles responded with a bang as Alex Iwobi got the goal having latched on to a pass from Victor Osimhen.

The visitors dominated the proceedings at Maseru afterwards as Samuel Chukwueze headed the ball just over an on-rushing Lichaba Thabiso in the Lesotho goal to put the three time African champions ahead, just before half-time.

Gernot Rohr’s men looked the hungrier side even after the break like though they were the ones behind.

The manager opted to throw in fresh legs into the fray with Ramon Azeez coming on for Joe Aribo in the 71st minute. The substitution seemed to have paid off as four minutes after, Lille’s Osimhen got a goal of his own after a fine piece of work from Ola Aina on the left flank.

In the 85th minute, Azeez had a direct influence on the goal as he turned provider for Osimhen who beautifully beat the goalkeeper before slotting the ball into Lesotho’s goal. Four goals it was and the former African Champions were running riot.

Just before the referee ended proceedings, Nigeria’s Awaziem turned the ball into his own goal as the deficit was reduced to two.

The win makes it six points for Nigeria from their last two games while their opponents have only managed a single point in the same number of games.
