Supreme Court Fixes Date for Review of Imo And Zamfara Governorship Elections Judgements

The Supreme Court has fixed March 2 for review of cases involving its decision on the Imo and Zamfara states governorship elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and sacked Imo Governor, Emeka Ihedioha had filed an application for the review of the Imo case while the Abdulaziz Yari faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) called for the review in Zamfara State.

In Zamfara State, the apex court had voided the participation of candidates of the APC in the last elections in the state, leading to PDP taking all the elective posts.

The PDP and Ihedioha are praying the court to, among others, reverse its judgment on January 14 this, which sacked Ihedioha and replaced him with Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Ihedioha’s lead lawyer, Kanu Agabi during today’s hearing sought time to enable parties to file the necessary papers. The request was granted by other lawyers.

A seven-man panel of the Supreme Court, led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Muhammad, in a brief ruling, granted the request for an adjournment and adjourned till March 2, 2020.

During the mention of the Zamfara case, the CJN said it was impossible for the court to proceed to hear the matter because some of the parties have not been served.

The lawyers agreed that an adjournment was necessary.
