Supreme Court Upholds The Election Won by Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State

The Supreme Court headed by Justice Amiru Sanusi has upheld the election in Ekiti State of Governor Kayode Fayemi.

In a unanimous judgment said by Justice Sanusi of a five-man panel held yesterday, April 17th, the apex court held that the appeal filed by Segun Oni identified as a former governor of Ekiti state, was statute barred.

Justice Amiru Sanusi, while delivering his lead judgement, held that the case, being a pre-election one, was not started at the trial court within the required time as it should be under the Forth Alteration Act.

Segun Oni, a former governor of Ekiti state, was in the court to challenge the eligibility of now Governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi, to stand as a candidate in July 14, 2018, governorship poll in Ekiti state under the platform of APC.

Segun Oni, an ex-governor of Ekiti state, in the suit claimed that Governor Kayode Fayemi was not eligible to run as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate having not resigned as Minister of Mines and Steel Development 30 days before the APC’s primary election.
