Teenage Boy Arraigned In Court Over Alleged Theft of Car Battery And Side-Mirror

A 13-year-old boy has today, February 11th, appeared before an Oredo Family Court 2 over the alleged theft of car battery and side-mirror respectively.

According to the sheet which presents the charge, the teenage boy committed the offence with three others who are yet to be apprehended as at the time of filing this report, on Dec. 25, 2018, at No. 21, Easy Motion Street, Off Saint Saviour Road, Evboriaria, Benin City.

The police prosecutor identified as Insp. Thomas Omokaro who read the charges stated that the defendant and three others who are still yet to be identified conspired with each other to commit felony to steal the car battery and side-mirror.

Inspector Thomas Omokaro, the prosecutor who is also police, stated that the offence which was committed by the teenage boy and three others who are still at large is punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Cap 48 Vol II of the defunct Bendel State Laws of Nigeria 1976 now applicable in Edo State.

While on the second count of the charge, the police prosecutor, Inspector Thomas Omokaro, said that the accused, the teenage boy, and the three others still at large, stole the battery valued N20, 000 and two side mirrors valued N5, 000, thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 390 (9) of the same laws.

The Chief Magistrate of the court in Edo state identified as Mr E. I. Adamagbo, however, did not take the plea of the boy, saying the court has no jurisdiction to hear the case.

The case has, however, been adjourned by the Chief Magistrate of the court to Feb. 13, pending its transfer to an appropriate court sooner rather than later.

The Police have not been able to ascertain if the teenage boy was sent to steal the car battery and side-mirror.
