Tiwa Savage Balogun is a popular Nigerian singer, actress and performer popularly referred to simply as Tiwa Savage. Tiwa Savage is ever energetic on the stage and is known for giving her audience thrilling performances that leaves them wanting more. Tiwa Savage Early Life

Tiwatope Savage Balogun was born in Ikeja, Lagos State on the 5th of February, 1980. She is from Isale Eko in Lagos State. In the year 1991, at the age of 11, she relocated alongside her family to the United Kingdom and later to the United States. Tiwa was a trombone player in her high school orchestra band.

By the age of 16, she had started performing. She did backup vocals for George Michael and also lent vocals to other famous musicians such as Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, Blu Cantrell and CHake Khan. After high school, Tiwa furthered her education at the University of Kent where she Studied Business Administration. She then began work at The Royal Bank of Scotland after her graduation.

Tiwa Savage Rise to fame

Tiwa Savage’s career as a performer, singer and songwriter has been on since she was a teenager. It started with her being a trombone player in high school. Then she began to write songs for famous musicians and also performed vocals for a number of them.

She has performed on stage with foreign musicians like 50 cent, The Black Eyed Peas, Destiny’s Child and Eminem and a host of others.

In the year 2006, she participated at the famous music competition Franchise X Factor, UK edition while still attending music school. She made it to the final 24.

In 2009, Tiwa signed a music deal with Sony/ATV Music Publishing which intensified her deal to collaborate and write for musicians like Monica, Babyface, Fantasia Barrino and Kat Delina. Tiwa Savage was consequently given song writing credit for Monica’s ballad titled Catch Me. She also wrote Push Push by Kat Deluna featuring Akon and David Guetta as well as Oh Yeah by Jaicko featuring Snoop Dogg among others.

Fantasia got a Grammy award nomination from the song Collard Greens and Cornbread on which Tiwa Savage collaborated in the year 2010.  Same year, she released a single called Kele Kele Love. This song became very popular and contributed to her fame.

In 2011, Tiwa co-hosted the second season of the famous Nigerian Idol and also made her film debut in the stage adaptation of For Coloured Girls alongside actress Joke Silva and IretiOla Doyle. She also released another single titled Love Me which was quite successful.

Tiwa Savage joined Marvin records in 2012 and has a number of songs released under the label. Tiwa Savage released her debut album Once Upon a Time On the 3rd of July, 2013.

On the 31st of January, 2014, Tiwa released a song titled Love in Yellow produced by Spellz. Love in Yellow was released as a promotional single to celebrate Valentine’s Day. In May of the same year, she was involved in a collaboration by the Mavin Records artistes which featured Reekado Banks, Korede Bello, Don Jazzy, Dr Sid and Di’Ja. The song titled Dorobucci was the record labels first collaborative song since the release of the Solar Plexus album in 2012.

Also in June 2014, Tiwa Savage collaborated with some artists such as MI Casa, Davido and Lola Rae in a song released for DSTV’s Africa Rising campaign. The song was made with the aim of inspiring young Africans to engage in community based social investment projects. Same month, she performed at the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards alongside several other Davido, Mafizikolo, Flavour N’abania and other artists.

Tiwa Savage was reported to have signed a management and distribution deal with Roc Nation in 2016. The deal was announced on her Instagram page and she had since been recognised as the first Nigerian to be signed by the label.

In 2018, Tiwa released a single titled Lova Lova where she featured fellow artist Duncan Mighty. She was also featured in a number of songs and videos including Fever with Davido.

In 2018, she won the Best African Act award at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

In 2016 she had about four awards from WatsUp TV including Best African Performance, Best West African Video and African Video of the Year. Three of these awards were from her music video Bad.

In 2015, Tiwa won the African Artiste of The Year Award organised by Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, she also won the City People Awards for Artiste of the year.

In 2014, she won over four awards at the Headies, she has one MOBO award and two Channel O Music Awards.

Tiwa Savage average net worth is about $4.9 million dollars. She owns a label imprint called 323 Entertainment. She is a brand ambassador to Pepsi. He has also signed a deal with MTN Nigeria which is said to be worth over thirty million naira. Tiwa Savage is also reported to have signed endorsement deals with Forte Oil and Maggi.

Tiwa Savage got married to Tunji Balogun popularly known as Teebills, her former manager. The traditional wedding held on 23rd November, 2013 at the Ark in Lekki, Lagos State. The couple had their white wedding in Dubai on the 26th of April 2014 at the Armani Hotel.

The marriage however was a fairy tale one. Shortly after the birth of her child in 2015, Jamil, Tiwa’s husband announced over several social media posts his wife’s infidelity and her mother’s witchcraft. Tiwa however in an interview with Pulse Nigeria and Thisday debunked her husband’s claims of her infidelity. She further disclosed that Tunji Balogun has been financially reckless and is also into drug addiction. She mentioned that her marriage to the music producer was over.

In 2018, Tiwa was rumoured to be having an affair with a younger popular musician, Wizkid based on a video the duo released titled Fever. Tiwa and Wizkid were seen portraying a couple in sizzling romance in the Fever video. Tiwa however refused to publicly acknowledge or deny the claims. In one of her interviews, she mentioned that she had developed thick skin to such rumours and did not need to respond.

So far, Tiwa Savage has two albums, R.E.D and Once Upon a Time. In total, she has about fifteen singles, ten music videos and a number of guest appearances. Her songs include My Darlin, Kele Kele Love, Eminado, All Over, Wanted and Without My heart.

Despite rumours and all, Tiwa Savage remains a sizzling delight and a favourite of many lovers of Nigerian music.
