Tottenham Appoint Mourinho Manager Following Sack Of Pochettino

Jose Mourinho has now been appointed manager of Tottenham Hotspur only few hours after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked.

The Portuguese manager will now take over the reins at Tottenham till the end of the 2023 season.

The former Manchester United and Chelsea boss is expected to bring a turn around in the form of the club, with the club wallowing in 14th position on the log.

He comes in as an immediate replacement for Pochettino who has consistently been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane.

Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy is said to have drawn up a list of possible replacements for Pochettino before giving Mourinho the nod.

Asides Mourinho, the list also comprised of RB Leipzig’s Julian Nagelsmann, former Juventus boss Max Allegri and PSG’s Thomas Tuchel.

Negotiations between the Lilywhites and Mourinho who has been without a managerial job since December has intensified over the last few days before a conclusion was reached at the early hours of Wednesday.

According to reports, the Portuguese gaffer was promised funds to work with in both the January and summer transfer windows.

“I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters,” said Mourinho. “The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”

Mourinho will take training at Hotspur way ahead of the Lilywhites Premier League clash with West Ham United.

Levy said he was reluctant at relieving Pochettino off his managerial duties at the London stadium but explained that the decision was arrived at in the club’s best interest.

Tottenham newest manager has won the Premier League title on three occasions with Chelsea, and is one of only three managers to have won the UEFA Champions League with two different clubs, FC Porto in 2004 and Inter Milan in 2010.

“In Jose, we have one of the most successful managers in football,” the club’s chairman said on Wednesday.
