Tottenham Vs Ajax UCL 30 April Preview

In a much talked about face-off between this season’s outside title contenders, Tottenham welcome Ajax to North London in the first leg of their double-legged last four tie.

Tottenham

Tottenham haven’t made it to the semis of this competition since their first ever European campaign in 1961-62.

This crop of players are said to be Spurs’ best aggregation of players in their history. The story line could well develop with some degree of irony if Tottenham cap their 11-year wait for a trophy with the most coveted and prestigious European club competition.

For reaching this far in the first place, the Lilywhites deserve some credit with a large proportion deservedly showered on Argentine gaffer, Mauricio Pochetttino.

Of all the clubs remaining in the semis, the Lilywhites are the lowest on experience but will be hopeful that none of that counts when they play in front of their home fans.

That said, they have scored only one goal in their last three matches and have now endured three defeats in their last four games with the most recent of them coming against West Ham in their London Stadium

Ajax

It has been so distant a time that the Dutch giants made it this far in the competition. 22 years is no joke and is evident in the Eredivise’s decision to cancel Ajax weekend’s match in order to gift them some time to rest and prepare for this game.

They have pushed out two heavy weights – Real Madrid and Juventus – from the competition this term and the knowledge that neither of its best players – Matt de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong – are likely to still remain at the club come next season makes this season all the more important to savour.

However, stats do not swing in their favour as they have won only two of their last eight away legs in the Champions league competition.

Coupled with that, they have lost their last four double legged ties with English clubs but will be hopeful that the jinx breaks this term.

Spurs will be missing the services of Kane (injury) and Son (suspension) in the fixture. They are also sweating over the fitness of Harry Winks and Erik Lamela.

For Ajax, Tagliafico and Carel Eiting would be absentees for the encounter while Noussair Mazraoui would face a last minute fitness test to determine his readiness for the game.
