Tottenham vs Manchester City – EPL October 2018 Preview and Scores

Match Preview

Its a heavyweight clash in the English Premier league on monday between title contenders Tottenham Hotspur and league holders, Manchester City on monday. Both teams face a huge test of strength and character in what is a high profile game and they will both be looking to send title warnings with this match.

Team News

Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs have struggled for form in the champions league this season. They are already on the verge of an exit from the group stages after just three matches played. Another defeat for them will seal their fate but this is in huge contrast to their league performance.

They currently sit 5th on the table, 5 points off the top with a game in hand. Since they suffered a back-to-back defeat at the hands of Watford and Liverpool in September, Pochettino’s boys have responded in style by racking up four successive wins to claw themselves to within two points of pacesetters Man City and Liverpool.

Harry Kane

With league games against Chelsea and Arsenal still to come after this, Tottenham are about to have their resolves tested. Pochettino will want to win these matches to take people’s attention from their ” new stadium delays” and horrendous champions league form.

Delle Alli, Jan Ventonghen, Vincent Janssen and Danny Rose are still on the sidelines and will miss Monday’s cracker. However Poch already has plenty of other options in attacking midfield, though, including Lucas Moura,

Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela , while Son Heung-min was given the nod against PSV.

Tottenham’s team should look like this

Lloris; Trippier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Davies; Dier, Dembele; Lamela, Eriksen, Moura; Kane

Manchester City

City are high flyers who currently sit top of the league and even with a staggering goal difference after just 9 games. What’s more interesting is that ast week’s 5-0 thrashing of Burnley, where five different goalscorers registered, took Man City’s unbeaten run in the Premier League to 15 matches since a 3-2 loss to Manchester United in April.

Wolves and Liverpool are the only teams to have stopped Man City from getting all three points in their matches. City will be looking to continue the fine form and get maximum points from any opposition.

Kevin De Bruyne is back from injury and he played in the thrashing of Shaktar Donetsk in the Champions league during the week. Sergio Aguero was rested for the match and will be fully fit to play. Fabian Delph is also back in training. This leaves Danilo the only player still out injured. Every other player is available for selection.

City’s team should look like this….

Ederson; Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Mendy; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, D.Silva; Mahrez, Aguero, Sterling

Head To Head

Spurs have lost 10 of their last 15 top-flight meetings with Manchester City, having previously lost just three of their first 27 against them. Only two of the last 28 Premier League encounters have ended as draws, with Tottenham winning 15 to the Citizens’ 11.
