UBEC Boss Released Less Than 24-Hours After Abduction

After days of being abducted by kidnappers, the Chairman of the Board of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Muhammed Mahmood, has been released by the abductors.

On Monday, reports had it that Muhammed Mahmood, and his daughter were kidnapped along Abuja-Kaduna Highway.

On Tuesday afternoon, an aide to the UBEC boss informed Sahara Reporters via phone that his Mahmood and his daughter had been released.

The media aide also disclosed that Mahmood and his daughter came back home around 1:30pm, and they were unhurt by the abductors. He also informed Sahara Reporters that no ransom was paid to secure the release of Mahmood and his daughter.

On Monday, Mahmood was kidnapped with his daughter along the Kaduna-Abuja highaway, around Katari, a village few kilometres from Zuba, an Abuja suburb, while traveling from Kaduna to Abuja. The abductors reportedly shot dead Mahmood’s driver during the operation.
