Ukraine Airline Crash: Iranian Protest, Calls for Resignation of Ayatollah

Protests have broken on Saturday in Tehran, the capital of Iran after military admitted fatal blunder in the crashed Ukraine jetliner that had 176 people on board.

The country’s military had admitted shooting down passenger plane full of its citizens and some foreigner.

Ukrainian Airlines Flight 752 which had at least 130 Iranian citizens on board was shot down by hapless Iranian Revolutionary Guard air defence forces shortly after taking off from Tehran on January 8.

The country has been on high alert after targeting US forces with ballistic missiles on Wednesday.

Iranians have gathered in the streets of Tehran to demand the resignation of Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, the head of state of Iran and the commander-in-chief of its armed forces after the regime admitted it had mistakenly shot down a passenger plane.

Angry crowds had gathered on Saturday night chanting ‘death to liars’, calling for the country’s supreme leader to step down over the tragic military blunder.

Riot police quickly responded with tear gas in an attempt to break up the protests.

Before admitting ‘human error’ on Saturday, Iran had for days claimed that a technical failure caused the crash.

The incident happened hours after launching ballistic missiles at U.S. forces in Iraq in a strike that caused no casualties as a retaliation for a U.S. operation that killed powerful Iranian General Qassem Soleimani

There were candlelight vigils at universities in Tehran for the victims of Flight 752 began to turn to protests against the regime.

Protesters are demanding that those responsible for shooting down the civilian plane be publicly tried and held accountable.
