UN Climate Summit: ‘Your Response to Buhari’s Answer to Moderator’s Question Childish’, Omokri Slams Presidency

  • Says deleting the video shows guilt and shame.
  • Presidency says Buhari read his prepared speech to address the theme of the event.

Reno Omokri, a former media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan has described the response of the presidency to the answer given by President Muhamadu Buhari to a moderator’s question at the UN Climate Action Summit as childish.

The video which had gone viral saw Buhari answering question on a pathway for Nigerian youthful population with a prepared remark on climate solutions.

The president’s media office said since the event was to provide an opportunity for world leaders to, come to New York, venue of the summit with concrete, realistic plans to enhance their nationally determined contributions by 2020, in line with reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45 percent over the next decade, and to net zero emissions by 2050, the president chose to deliver his remark in order to address the theme of the event.

“So, note that the goal of the panel was to elicit ‘announcements’ from the panellists on behalf of their respective countries: Fiji, Nigeria, Netherlands, the Bank of England, etc. In other words, panellists were billed to deliver remarks announcing their country/organisation plans to build a resilient, climate-sensitive future.

“To address the theme of the event, President Buhari chose to deliver prepared remarks,” part of the statement reads.

Omokri who has been a top critic of the ruling government took to his Twitter page and lambasted the media team.

The Presidency in a statement claimed that The @NGRPresident ’s excuse as to why General @MBuhari FUMBLED and was unable to respond to the female @UN moderator’s question is CHILDISH. Nigerians are not FOOLS. None of the other panelists answered a question by reading out of point from a SCRIPT!

“Furthermore, why did General @MBuhari’s spokesmen DELETE the video after I exposed his FUMBLING to answer the  @UN moderator’s question by reading off point from a speech? The DELETION is evidence of GUILT and SHAME. Only the GUILTY DELETE EVIDENCE,” he tweeted.
