United Legend Slams Present Crop Of Players For Not Understanding Rivalry With Liverpool

Roy Keane has lashed out at Manchester United players for not understanding the magnitude of the rivalry between they and Liverpool.

The former United player has shown his disappointment for how both teams conducted themselves before Sunday’s game.

The former captain has slammed the club’s players for their behaviour ahead of the clash with their fiercest rivals, Liverpool.

Just before the start of the game, Andreas Perreira and Fred were seen exchanging pleasantries with their compatriots Firmino who plays for the visiting side.

While it looked like a seemingly innocent greetings exchange, Roy Keane was less than impressed by their behaviour which he suggested was in sharp contrast to what obtained during his playing days.

“I’m disgusted with the players. You’re going to war, they’re hugging and kissing,” he said on Sky Sports .

“Don’t even look at the opposition. You’re going into battle against them. The game hasn’t changed that much, the players have changed. You’re going to war against these players and they’re hugging each other.

“Chat to them after the game, or don’t even chat to them after the game.”

The statement by Keane was also backed up by Jose Mourinho who said:

“What the game means for the fans. In the dressing room you know that, you feel that and you breathe that,” the Portuguese gaffer said.

“The difference between losing at home or not to lose at home against the biggest rival makes a huge difference.”

The Red devils later settled for a point after Marcus Rashford opener was cancelled in the final minutes of the encounter by Adam Lallana’s.

“Disappointed on behalf of the players and the fans for the effort they put in,” Man Utd boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said post-match.

“They deserved more than the one point I felt, and it feels worse because it was towards the end of the game.

“Yes, they put us under pressure towards the end but I don’t think they created too many chances and we soaked the pressure up well. One lack of concentration and it’s a goal. That’s the level we are at.”
