Van Dijk And Salah Help Liverpool To 2-0 Win Over United

Two goals from Van Dijk and Mohammed Salah helped Liverpool dispatch Manchester United and go 16 clear points off second-placed Manchester City.

Second-placed Manchester City were held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace at the Etihad stadium while the Reds who still have a game in hand took the chance to hold even more firmly to the league lead position.

Liverpol are now poised to win their first league title since 1990.

Speaking for Manchester United, they remain the only Premier League team to have taken points off Liverpool, however, they were completely dominated by their fiercest rivals this time.

Just like their last outing against the Merseyside outfit, Manchester United deployed a three-man centre-back pairing featuring Luke Shaw while Aaron Wan Bissaka and Brandon Williams were put on the wing.

Liverpool took just 14 minutes to register a goal, coming from Reds centre-back, Virgil Van Dijk before two goals were disallowed to keep the scoreline at 1-0 going into the interval.

Manchester United tried to rear their heads back into the game but couldn’t quite make the cut. Their best chance came through Perreira but the attacking midfielder failed to meet the cross from Daniel James.

Klopp then substituted Mane for Origi and Firmino for Lallana with the hopes of adding to their tally, however, the best both could do was keep United at bay as the Red devils sought an equalizer.

Interestingly, it was Alisson who started the break that got Liverpool the second goal. The former Roma goalie collected the ball from a United corner and sent the ball Salah’s way. The Egyptian, marked by Daniel James showed both speed and composure to slot the ball in between the legs of David De Gea who was called into action for the most parts of the game.

Liverpool would take a trip to Molineux to face Wolves in Thursday while Manchester United lock horns with Burnley a day prior.
