We Only Stole to Celebrate Yuletide – Suspect

Ugochukwu Nnaji, a suspected armed robber, has confessed that he and members of his robbery gang chose to rob during the Christmas celebration so as to celebrate the season like rich men.

Nnaji who is one of the two suspects nabbed by operatives of the Imo State Police Command, made this revelation when quizzed by reporters. The robbery suspects are notorious for trailing and dispossessing bank customers of their money in and around Imo State.

While speaking with reporters as the supects were being paraded by the Imo State police command, Nnaji said, the coming of another yuletide alerted them that it was time for their group to rob innocent bank customers so as to celebrate the festivities like the rich do.

Nnaji went on to say that they have been in the robbery business for a long time because the money they made from menial jobs was always not enough for them to live big like the wealthy.

“We do it in every festive period, especially Christmas and New Year to also celebrate the period lavishly like others, who have made money.”

“The menial jobs we do would not make us be in line with others during the celebration,” said Nnaji.

Nnaji was arrested alongside his friend,  Chibueze Mgboji on Friday. The suspects were arrested by men of the Imo State police after they allegedly attacked a new generation bank and carted away with a huge sum of money.

Briefing newsmen at the command headquarters, Owerri, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended while escaping with money stolen from a Fidelity Bank customer in Ikenegbu, Owerri.
The CP, who stated that the alarm raised by the victim attracted operatives of the police, who were immediately given a hot chase and were apprehended.

Their loot was instantly recovered as they tried to escape. The two suspects have confessed to the crime, will soon be charged to court.” said Lakanu.

Lakanu noted that the criminals rode on a motorcycle, stating that the two suspects had earlier monitored another bank customer (name withheld) and snatched his bag containing N150, 000.
Lakanu said:

“Immediately he came out of the bank with a bag containing money, the duo, operating on a motorcycle, waylaid him and snatched the bag.”
