Why Peace Will Continue to Elude Nigeria – Nwobodo

Former governor of old Anambra State, Jim Nwobodo, on Sunday says peace will continue to elude Nigeria until Ndigbo are given their rightful place in the scheme of things.

Nwobodo stated this in Enugu at his 79th birthday event.

The former governor, who made case for a Nigerian president of Igbo extraction in 2023 said it was unjust that Igbo, one leg of the Nigerian tripod, was being relegated in the country’s power equation.

According to him, a country that failed to recognise justice and fairness would continue to lag behind in development.

Noting that Nigeria has decided to pay lip service to justice and fair play in its power equation, Nwobodo said Igbos should be allowed to have their turn at the presidency and development will come.

“Peace will come and you will have created room for development,” he added.

Speaking on the ongoing trial and suspension from office of Justice Walter Onnoghen, Nwobodo described the incident as a disgrace to the Nigerian judiciary and therefore charged the judiciary to continue to rise in defence of the country, saying it was the only institution that was holding the country together.

He, therefore, urged people from the South-East to be united, adding that the zone would produce Nigeria’s President without fighting.

“If an Igbo man becomes the President, there will be a difference,” he said.

Extolling the virtue of the incumbent Enugu Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Nwobodo said that he has actually brought everybody together in peace.

Speaking earlier, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo, extolled Nwobodo’s leadership qualities, describing him as an icon.

He likened his leadership style to that of the state governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi whom he said did not discriminate among political parties.

Nwodo also described Governor Ugwuanyi as a governor whose leadership knows no boundary.

While noting that Ugwuanyi does not discriminate among political parties because he treats everybody equally, he added that since Ugwuanyi came to power, he has united the people of the state and this has brought peace to the state.
