– Elder statesman Edwin Clark has expressed his fears on the credibility and fairness of the 2019 General election

– He wondered if it was politically right for a card-carrying member of the APC to be a contractor to INEC

Ijaw leader and Elder statesman, Edwin Clark has expressed his fears on the fairness and credibility of the rescheduled presidential election, which is expected to commence on Saturday, 23rd of Feb.

Edwin Clark made known his fears on the public confession made by Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC that Alh. Muhammad Sanni, who happens to be a Senatorial Candidate of the All Progressive Congress in Niger state was a contractor to the electoral body.

Clark during a statement with the press in his home town in Burutu Local Government area of Delta state wondered if it was politically right for a card-carrying member of the APC to be a contractor supplying sensitive materials to INEC.

The Ijaw leader, however, stated that Prof. Mahmood Yakubu could be given a benefit of doubt because he was not in INEC in 2011 and 2015.

But Clark stressed that there are some senior electoral commissioners who should have brief the chairman about this.

He said: “Senatorial Candidate is your contractor supplying sensitive materials?

“I could forgive him (Prof Mahmood) for the benefit of the doubt that he was not in INEC in 2011 and 2015. But there are senior electoral commissioners who should, if thy at honest, brief the chairman of this fact.”

He called on INEC’s Chairman to tell Nigerians, “whether the engagement of an interested party as a contractor for the production of sensitive materials is morally and politically justifiable and if elections conducted in such a situation will be free, fair and credible.”
