A report has made it known today that the highest lawmaking body in Nigeria, the Senate has postponed the passage of the 2019 Budget.
According to the report, the passage of the 2019 Budget has been postponed to Next week Tuesday, 30th of April.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, in a statement during the plenary, gave reasons for the decisions taken by the Senate over the 2019 Budget.
He gave two reasons why the passage of the 2019 budget was postponed.
Bukola Saraki disclosed that one of the reasons was because the Chairman of the committee was absent and also the postponement would help committee members go through the budget details before it is passed.
In order to prevent any delay next week, the Senate President directed the National Assembly secretariat to ensure that the senators get copies of the bill ahead of passage.
The Senate President in his statement said, “Some members have not got printed copies of the details and I have directed the Clerk to make sure that latest by Monday we all have printed copies so that everybody can see the details of the budget, and by so doing, we can now pass it on Tuesday.
“We don’t want to run into a problem where we pass it without details and our colleagues will start to comment. So, Clerk, ensure that everybody has copies of the details by Monday and we will pass it on Tuesday,” he said.

Prior to today’s postponement, Senator Bukola Saraki had on April 9, 2019, passed a Thursday deadline to the Senate Committee on Appropriations for submission of its report on the 2019 Appropriation Bill.
The April 9 deadline came one week after the Committee on Appropriations failed to lay its report on April 2, 2019.
