Liverpool return to football action on Monday night as they get their Emirates FA Cup journey underway at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Manchester City inflicted Jurgen Klopp’s men with their first league defeat of the season last time out. The Reds will be itching to set the record straight when they visit Molineux Stadium for the round three of the world’s oldest club cup competition.

Under the tutelage of Nuno Espirito Santo, Wolves have been phenomenal this season following their promotion to the Premier League last year. Their resilient performances have earned them praise from the media and fans alike. At the present time, the club find themselves in the top half of the table.

Wolves came out on top when both sides last locked horns in this competition with a narrow 2-1 margin. They were in a huge crisis at the time, embroiled in a relegation battle in the Championship and struggling to string up good performances. Paul Lambert was the man brought in to salvage their season, stirring the club into 15th position at the close of the campaign. Nuno Santos was hailed by fans at the time as the mastermind of a giant killing.

Wolves have been inconsistent lately, doing really well to see off an in-form Spurs 3-1 at Wembley before falling to a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.

However, fans will look forward to the prospect of causing an upset against a Liverpool team that were outclassed at the Etihad last week.

The Reds may have fallen to a star-studded Man City team in midweek to end all hopes of emulating “The Arsenal Invincibles” but they have every reason to remain optimistic as they remain at the summit of the league table.

Winning the league will come as a huge relief to the fans as their thirst for the Premier League title since their last triumph in 1990 lingers.

It’s worth noting that Klopp hasn’t got his hands on any silverware since taking over the reins at Anfield and he will know he has a very good shot at the FA Cup this season. We should expect the German gaffer to field his best team as he goes in search of his first taste of success at Merseyside.

Team News

The Reds remain without centre-backs, Gomez and Matip and would stick with Lovren in that position. Nathaniel Clyne will also be unavailable having been sent to Bournemouth.

Simon Mignolet will be in goal ahead of choice number one, Allison for the Merseyside outfit. Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge should also surface in the team ahead of regulars- Firmino and Salah. Mane could however retain his starting shirt.

Diogo will be back in contention for a starting shirt after sitting out their last four outings so also is Roman Saiss who picked up a knock in the defeat against Palace.

Johnny Rudy should start in goal for the Wanderers. So also is Ruben Neves expected to be back in the fold for the cup tie
