US President Donald Trump made a surprise Christmas visit to US troops in Iraq on Wednesday, his first trip to a conflict zone nearly two years into his presidency and days after announcing a pullout of American troops from Syria.

5. Iraq Makes Christmas Day an Official Nationwide Holiday

The Iraqi Government has made Christmas Day a national holiday in their country.

The major announcement was made today after the Iraqi Cabinet approved an amendment to its national holiday’s law which creates a new official one ‘on the occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ’.

Iraqi is made up of 95 percent Muslim with around 300,000 Christians. Christmas Day had been designated as a religious break only for the Iraqi Christian community, but with the new amendment, the holiday now for everyone.

6. Russia Accuses Israel of Threatening Civilian Planes

Russia’s Defense Ministry has on Wednesday accused the Israeli Air Forces of striking civilian airplanes landing at the Damascus and Beirut airports.

The Russian Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said six Israeli F-16 fighter jets used 16 air GBU-39 air bombs in the attack on Tuesday night.

Fourteen bombs were destroyed by Syria’s air defense system but two hit the logistic center of a Syrian army brigade wounding three servicemen, he added.

7. 3 Drug Smugglers Arrested after Dramatic High-speed Police Sea chase

The Spanish Civil Guard made use of a helicopter and a speed boat to intercept the suspects who attempted to flee at full speed on the Costa del Sol.

The detainees, a Spaniard and two Moroccans were arrested at Sabinillas beach in Malaga, Spain.

On Christmas day, the royal family stepped out together for the Christmas Day Church Service at Church of St. Mary Magdalene on the Sandringham estate in King’s Lynn, England.

Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, as well as Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, were in attendance.

There have been rumours of tension between the two couples recently after Harry and Meghan announced they are moving out of their cottage at Kensington Palace, but they were spotted making a joyous appearance together as they walked to the service.
