1. There’s Alleged Plot to Kill Venezuelan President – Minister

Colombia’s foreign minister on Saturday said there was an alleged plot to kill President Ivan Duque. He also revealed that three Venezuelan citizens had been detained for possession of “weapons of war.”

In a separate statement, Minister Trujillo said that the threats came from “internal and external actors.”

President Duque has called upon “countries that defend democracy”  not to recognize the government of Nicolas Maduro, who will begin a new term come January 10, after being re-elected by an electoral process that was greatly flawed, Duque claimed.

Maduro, on his own part said the future government of Brazil under President-elect Jair Bolsonaro, Colombia and the United States are all involved in plotting a coup in Venezuela and want to assassinate him.

2. Norths’ Kim Vows More Summits with South’s Moon in 2019

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has vowed to meet the South’s President Moon Jae-in “frequently” next year to discuss denuclearization of the peninsula. A letter sent to Seoul, Moon’s office said on Sunday.

The leader of the isolated North met with Moon three times this year,  twice at the border truce village of Panmunjom and once in the North’s capital Pyongyang.

North and South Korea have been in a cold war for years but are now seeking reconciliations.

3. A Dangerous White Toxin We Eat Daily – No It’s Not Salt Or Sugar!

Research has revealed that excess intake of sodium glutamate (also known as MSG) has been linked to increased cravings, overeating and obesity.

Sodium glutamate or monosodium glutamate is one of the most common additives used in manufactured foods and is used widely in foods served at restaurants.

It is also present in some foods naturally and is usually present in the form of a white crystalline powder and looks very similar to salt and sugar. Since Monosodium glutamate is a flavor enhancer, it enhances the meaty taste of food items making food tastier exciting the nerve cells, hence inducing over-eating.

MSG is present in our Nigerian stock cubes like Maggi, Knorr, Royco, Onga and a host of others.

4. Deaths, Vote-Rigging Claims Mar Bangladesh Election Day

Bangladesh rival party supporters fought battles that left at least 14 people dead on Sunday as Bangladesh held a parliamentary election expected to give the country’s longest-serving leader, Sheikh Hasina, a new term despite opposition claims of rigged voting.

Polls predicted Hasina will clinch a third-consecutive term and record fourth overall.

Hasina, 71, has been lauded for boosting economic growth in the poor South Asian nation during her decade in power and for welcoming Rohingya refugees fleeing a military crackdown in neighbouring Myanmar.

But critics accuse her of authoritarianism and crippling the opposition.

5. Tshisekedi, Fayulu or Shadary? Congo Voters to Decide

Voters in the Democratic Republic of Congo went to the polls on Sunday in elections that will shape the future of the troubled country, amidst fears that violence could overshadow the ballot.

Millions of voters are want a successor for President Joseph Kabila who is yet to step down two years after his tenure expired, as a result of delayed elections in a bid to cling on to power.

This election gives DR Congo the chance of its first peaceful transfer of power since it gained independence from Belgium in 1960.

6. Chukwueze Attracts Premier League Interest

Nigeria international Samuel Chukwueze has attracted reported interest from the English Premier League.

According to the Leicester Mercury, both Arsenal and Leicester City are keen on landing the Villarreal attacker in the January transfer window. Atletico Madrid has also expressed their interest in the winger.

The 19-year-old won the 2015 U17 World Cup with Nigeria, earning a move from Nigeria’s Diamond Academy to the Spanish LaLiga club where he scored four goals in 13 matches across all competitions for the Spanish club this season.

7. Putin Wishes World Leaders a Happy New Year

Russia’s controversial leader, Vladmir Putin has sent out series of messages to wish various world leaders a Happy New Year.

He sent messages to the Queen of England and to the Prime Minister, Theresa May. In his statement he said he wished them and their family good health, happiness and success. He also said he wished the British people well-being and prosperity.

This is coming at a time the UK’s relationship with Moscow is not very good following Putin’s involvement in Syria war.

Putin also sent his regards to US emphasizing the importance of their relationship.

8. Children of Russian Islamic State Militants Return Home

Relatives of about 10000 Russian’s who left the country to join the Islamic State in Iraq alongside their children have made an appeal that the Children should be allowed to return home to Russia.

The Russian Authority has allowed Children aged between 3-10 years to return home after being separated from their mothers who were locked up in Iraq for their support of the Islamic State Militants.

9. Thousands of Police Deployed For Yellow Vest Protest on New Year Eve

The French Government has deployed over 147,000 Officers across the country for security during New Year’s Eve celebrations as yellow vest protesters prepare to join.

The Interior Ministry said in a statement on Sunday that the heavy security measures are needed because of a “high terrorist threat” and concerns about “non-declared protests.”

Police in Paris say they will put a security perimeter around the Champs-Elysees, the site of an annual New Year’s Eve light show and celebration. Anti-government protesters angry over taxes and President Emmanuel Macron’s pro-business policies are planning to be on the famed avenue on New Year Day

10. Bangladesh Prime Minister Remains in Power

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh has won the election which was reported to have been marred by many incidences of violence. The ruling party won 281 of the 350 parliamentary seats, surpassing its previous election win.
