1. Apple Hints Lower Iphone Prices Following Decline in Sales

Tech giant, Apple has hinted possibility of lower iphone prices following its recent decline in sales.

Iphone sales constitute most of the company’s profit, but a quarterly financial report showed a 15% fall in profit and overall 5% drop in its revenue.

The company had warned investors earlier in January 2019 that revenue would drop to about $84.3bn much lower than expected. This is by far lower than last quarter revenue.

Apple’s, CEO Tim Cooker said consumers, especially from emerging markets which Nigeria is among find it difficult to purchase iphones due to high prices.

2. Former Renault Boss, Carlos Ghosn Says ‘Plot and Treason’ Behind Arrest

Former Renault Boss, Carlos Ghosn said during his first interview after his arrested in November that some Nissan executive were against him because of the big plans he had for the company.

His big plans was to integrate Renault with its Japanese alliance partners, Nissan and Mitsubishi. Ghosn wanted the three carmakers to be more closely integrated to ensure autonomy under one holding company.

Despite the great plans, Ghosn said he believes the plan did not go down well with the Nissan boss, Hiroto Saikawa who he had the plan with.

Carlos Ghosn denied any wrong doing in all the charges that were brought against him in Japan.

3. Singer and Song Writer James Ingram Dies Aged 66

American two times Grammy-winner and Oscar-nominee James Ingram has taken his last breadth at the age of 66.

James Ingram before his death suffered brain cancer. He had two US number ones, with the smooth soul ballads Baby Come To Me (1986) and I Don’t Have The Heart (1990).

His demise was announced by his friend Debbie Allen on Twitter.

4. Venezuela Opposition Leader Juan Guaidó Banned From Leaving the Country.

Self- declared president of Venezuela Juan Guaido has been banned from leaving the country and his bank accounts frozen by Venezuela’s Supreme Court.

There have been intense power struggle between President Nicolás Maduro and Juan Guaido following Maduro’s plan to delay elections until 2025. Mr Juan Guaido wants election to be conducted in the country.

Mr Juan Guaido has been backed by UK, US and other countries while President Nicolás Maduro has major allies too in Russia.

5. Facebook Paid Teenagers to Mine Their Devices Data

Facebook paid teenagers between 13-17 years up to $20 (£15.30) a month to open up their phones to deep analysis.

The teens who all volunteeeds are paid to allow facebook access highly personal details like the contents of private messages in chat apps including photos and videos, emails, web browsing activity, logs of what apps were installed, and when they were used, a location history of where the owner had physically been and data usage.

The users were also asked to provide screenshots of their Amazon orders.

Reports say Facebook stopped the scheme only after it was exposed. It is not clear whether it ran the programme in the UK or other countries outside the US.

6. Iran Facing the Toughest Economic Situation In 40 Years Says President

President Hassan Rouhani of Iran said that the US are to be blamed for the counties economics struggles and not his government.

Iran is in its toughest economic situation in 40 years following re-imposed sanctions by the US over its nuclear programs.

U.S. President Donald Trump pulled out of an international nuclear deal with Iran last year over disagreements.

7. Sudan Opposition Leader’s Daughter Detained

Security forces have detained the daughter of opposition leader Mariam Sadiq al-Mahdi on Wednesday, her family said.

Mariam Sadiq al-Mahdi was arrested this morning at her resident in Khartoum, her sister Rabah said.

This is coming a day after Sudan’s security chief ordered the release of dozens of detained protesters.

She is deputy head of the opposition Umma Party headed by her father.

Sadiq al-Mahdi is Sudan’s last democratically elected prime minister. He was overthrown by President Omar al-Bashir in a coup in 1989.

8. Access to Uk Fishing Waters is Not Up for Renegotiation: UK PM May

British Prime Minister Theresa May has said that there is no renegotiation in any talks with the European Union over possible changes over access to British fishing waters after Brexit.

The prime minister said “I’m very clear … we had that agreement and it is not up for renegotiation.” Theresa May said she wants to reopen negotiations on Britain’s Withdrawal Agreement with the EU, something she had previously warned might see other countries also make new demands including  access to British fishing waters after Brexit.

9. White House Refused to Rule out Military Intervention in Venezuela

The United States has refused to rule out the use force on Venezuela’s border, a day after John Bolton, the US national security adviser, was photographed carrying a notepad that read: “5,000 troops to Colombia.”

Donald Trump had sent about 200 troops to Colombia, which was among the first following the US recognition of Juan Guaido, the “interim president”, as Venezuela’s legitimate leader.

10. Neymar Set to Miss Both PSG Champions League Clashes With Man’United.

Brazillian Star, Neymar will miss out on Paris saint-Germain’s crucial champions League clashes with Manchester United.

The £198million PSG star requires surgery on a metatarsal injury which could rule him out for the rest of the season.

The right foot injury is similar to one that kept him out for three months last season and this recent one will likely rule him out of the 12th February trip to Old Trafford and also the return leg in Paris on March 6.
