Xavi To Be Named Barcelona Manager At End Of Season?

Barcelona legendary midfielder, Xavi would be named Barcelona manager soon but not until the end of the current campaign.

The 39-year-old is touted to replace current Barcelona manager, Ernesto Valverde. With Valverde’s contract set to run out at the end of the year, Xavi is said to be the next in line for the hot seat at the Camp Nou.

The Spanish gaffer is reportedly in talks with Barca general director Oscar Grau and technical secretary Eric Abidal.

It was suggested in the media that Valverde could be sacked to make way for Xavi but the former Spain International dismissed all talks of moving to the Camp Nou straight away.

The Spanish boss who currently manages Al Sadd, respects the incumbent manager and doesn’t want to be the man to put Valverde out of the job.

In the meantime, Al-Sadd are looking forward to the final of the Qatar Cup, scheduled for January 17.

The 39-year-old confirmed rumours that he was asked about the dream job after his side’s 4-1 drubbing of Al-Rayyan in the semifinal of the Qatar Cup, played on Saturday.

“I cannot hide it, that is my dream,” he told reporters.

β€œIt is my dream to coach Barcelona, I have said it many times in many interviews. Everybody knows that I support Barcelona from the bottom of my heart, so yes, it’s one of my dreams but I’m focused on Al-Sadd.

“Yes, Abidal is my friend. I’ve met him many times, so I cannot say anything, just that I respect Barcelona, I respect Valverde, I respect my club.

“I’m doing my job here, I’m doing my best.

β€œI’m focused today on the semi-final, and now we play the final so I’m very happy, I’m very happy to coach Al-Sadd. I cannot say anything else.”

There’s been a lot of complaints among Blaugranas about the current manager and Thursday’s home defeat to Atletico Madrid made the outcry even more.

Xavi seems to many like the manager who can bring an end to Barcelona’s woes.
