Zidane Unsure How Soon Hazard Would Be Back From Ankle Injury

Zinedine Zidane has said that he is unsure whether Eden Hazard would return back to Real Madrid’s fold before the close of the season following an ankle injury.

The Belgium International suffered a fresh injury in the weekend and could stay out long on the sidelines.

Zidane made a move to justify the Los Blancos handling of the Belgian’s ankle problems following the recent lay-off.

The 30-year-old hobbled off in the second forty-five minutes of Madrid’s defeat to Levante and revelations much after the encounter showed that he had suffered a hairline fracture to his ankle.

Madrid are uncertain as to how long he would be out, however, it was a huge blow for the Spanish giants who are poised to take on Real Madrid in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie.

Zidane is unsure whether the 29-year-old would be fit in time before the close of the campaign.

“I can’t tell you. It is hard to say,”  French gaffer, Zidane said at a news conference ahead of Wednesday’s last-16 first-leg meeting with City.

“We don’t know if he will be operated on, but he’s obviously not happy. He had been out for almost three months and then played two games and picked up an injury.

“Obviously it is very bad news for him, but I can’t tell you if he’s going to be back before the season is over.”

The Los Blancos are still debating whether to take Hazard under the knife. The French boss insists it was not an easy call to make but hopes the former Chelsea man could be fit in time.

“I’m not the right person to tell you what should have been done and what shouldn’t have,” he said. “Obviously we are not happy about his injury.
“It comes at a bad moment and I feel bad for him because he wanted to play and help us and now he’s out again. It is sad of course.”
