Not less than 18 farmers are believed to have been gruesomely murdered by unknown attackers at Dan-anacha in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba in the early hours of Sunday, December 18th.
The news about the ugly incident was reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Sunday. Sunday’s killings is yet another horror occurrence in the series of bloody attacks by unknown assailants in the state.
Most of the slain farmers were murdered on their farms while working.
The Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr David Misal, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that the police are yet to ascertain and release a casualty figure.
“Actually, I cannot lie to you, there are casualties, but we will release the figures later after we might have finish combing the area.
“It was an undercover attack by some unidentified people in the area,” said Mr Misal.
The police PRO also said that the police would carryout a rigorous search for the culprits involved in this dastardly act using specialized intelligence gathering.
Acting Chairman of Concerned Taraba Tiv Youth Frontier, Mr Dooior Torkula, confirmed that 18 persons were killed in multiple attacks on farmlands and residents of Dan-anacha in the state.
Mr. Torkula said the frontier had retrieved 12 dead bodies from Dan-Anacha shortly after the attacks.
According to Mr. Torkula, four of the slain were retrieved from the Borno- Kruku road on the outskirts of Dan-Anacha, while two other corpses were retrieved from their farms.
He alleged that some of the victims were murdered in their sleep as the attackers broke into their houses and killed them.
Mr. Torkula, went on to say that some 18 other farmers were left severely injured after the attack.
The acting chairman said the bodies of the slain farmers were retrieved at around 3am this morning.
Torkula said, calm had returned to the area following the arrival of armed mobile policemen and other men of the armed forces.
