FG Files 10 Charges Against Babachir Lawal Over Fraud

The Federal Government has filed 10 charges bordering on allegations of fraud aimed against the ex-Secretary to the Government of the Federation identified as Babachir Lawal.

In addition, the Federal government also filed four charges of alleged fraud against the former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency identified as Ayodele Oke, and his wife also, known to be Mrs Folashade Oke.

Ayodele Oke and Mrs Folashade Oke, his wife, will, however, be arraigned before Justice Aneke of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday, February 1, 2019. While for Babachir Lawal, he will be arraigned before Abuja High Court next week on a date which is yet unknown.

It is important to note that Babachir Lawal was sacked by President Buhari in October 2017 after he was declared guilty of diverting funds meant for the rehabilitation of IDPs when he assumed the position of the Chairman of the Presidential Initiative of the North East.

While for Ayodele Oke, he was sacked after large amounts of foreign and local currencies were discovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi which belonged to him and his wife.

Part of the charges which were read stated thus:

“That you, Engr, Babachir David Lawal while being the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and a Director of Rholavision, Hamidu David Lawal being a director of Rholavision Engineering Limited, Sulaiman Abubakar being a staff of Rholavision Engineering Limited on or about the 7th of March 2016 at Abuja in the Abuja Judicial Division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory did conspire to commit an offence to wit: fraudulent acquisition of property and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 26 (1) (c ) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000 and punishable under Section 12 of the same Act.”
