Another Illegal Centre Busted By Security Operatives, Chained Victims Rescued

Security Operatives have again unraveled another illegal rehabilitation centers in Kaduna State.

The sting operation carried out by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) busted the centers on Tuesday morning in the ancient city of Zaria.

The discovered centers are Limanchi Iya and Marmara Rehabilitation Centres. Eleven people who were chained got rescued during the operation,. The victims include an 11-year-old boy.

Speaking to reporters on the situation, the NSCDC Deputy Commandant in Kaduna, Aloysius Nnegha, said that three people died in one of the centres while in custody, adding that many of them suffer from acute malnutrition as a result of the dehumanised condition they were subjected to.

The two illegal rehabilitation centers were raided by the security operatives following credible intelligence information received on the operations of such illegal rehabilitation centres in Zaria. Also arrested during the operation are five operators of the centres.

On her visit to the SCDC office in the state where the victims and the suspects were taken into custody, Kaduna Deputy Governor, Hadiza Balarabe, spoke to rescued victims.

This discovery is happening barely a month after security operatives raided two other facilities in Rigasa, an agrarian community in Igabi Local Government Area of the state.

Men of the Nigeria Police forced on September 27 rescued over 300 persons including children chained together at an illegal rehabilitation centre.

The victims were from different parts of Nigeria and Burkina Faso, Mali and other African countries. They were subjected to the daily recitation of the Holy Quran and prayers, allegedly accompanied by torture.

Three weeks later. the police again stormed another facility in Rigasa known as Malam Niga’s Rehabilitation Centre.

The operation which was conducted on a Saturday was personally monitored by Governor Nasir el-Rufa’i.

About 147 victims including those in chains were rescued from the facility. 22 female victims who claimed to be sexually harassed were also rescued.
