Kogi Election: Returning Officer Reveals How He Was Offered 50,000 to Compromise Poll

The collation officer for the Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State in Saturday’s governorship election has revealed how an unidentified person approached one of the polling units with an inducement of N50,000 to compromise the election.

Speaking at Mahmoud Yakubu Hall, venue of the collation of the governorship result in Lokoja on Sunday, he said that the unidentified person approached one of the electoral officers and gave him the N50,000, and asked him to alter the result from the unit before submission.

“The officer collected the money and I have here the money with me,” he said before giving the money to INEC officials.

The returning officer, who Prof. Ibrahim Umar commended the collation officer and the electoral officer for demonstrating the spirit of sincerity in rejecting such offer urged them to continue exhibiting such rare behaviour.

“Our society will one day reward you,” the returning officer said.

Meanwhile, there has been reports of widespread irregularities in the Saturday poll with the candidates of People’s Democratic Party, Musa Wada and his counterpart of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Natasha Akpoti calling for the cancellation of the poll due to alleged electoral malpractice.

INEC has continued to collation of the result as at the time of filing this report after taking a break yesternight. The current result shows that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate is coasting to victory.
